Transformación del Monumento a los Caídos
Plaza del Castillo and Plaza de la Libertad are the two poles of the great urban hall that Carlos III avenue became after its pedestrianisation. Yet Plaza de la Libertad has never seen much urban life, due to its peripheral condition and a design more concerned with monumentality than with everyday civic use.
The new centrality that the Lezkairu development brings to the square opens fresh opportunities: the Monument must stop being a barrier and become the city’s new South Gate.
