Mercado-Biblioteca Ponteareas
Starting from the fullest use of the existing building, the proposal creates a catalyst for multiple social and cultural activities and a link between the surrounding public spaces. Preserving the structure, the programme is arranged around the central longitudinal bay, separating spaces that require silence from those meant for meeting and exchange.
That central space, open and continuous, is understood as an extension of the outdoor public realm. The façades, with a permeable outer skin designed on bioclimatic criteria, blur the boundary between outside and inside, creating semi-open transition spaces that multiply the ways the building can be used.
